Dr Jonathan Woodcock interviewed Holmes during the time he was in jail on July 24 just four days after the shooting occurred for two hours duration. Holmes thought that if he snitch and went on and told the public of attempting to kill strangers he would be obligated to pay for the consequences. Doctors testified that one of Holmes delusion was to go out and do what he had to do. Woodcock was a witness by the defense to purpose the idea that Holmes was indeed crazy the moment he shot and killed people dead. Before the shooting occurred Holmes had already symptoms of mental illness disorder which made him anxious and stress and committed the crime. Management Theories - 1287 Words
After the end of the Industrial Revolution, large corporations were beginning to grow in size and power in order to satisfy what seemed the endless demands for new goods and services. As corporations and labor forces grew, there was a need to develop a more systematic study of organization and management, known as management theory, the significant being Frederick Taylor s Principles of Scientific Management which involved the development of training workers through special incentives and compensation (Boone p.33). In general, early management scientists tended to believe that there was a single way to organize companies and manage employees. By the beginning of the 20th century, there were initial attempts for launching a systematicâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Follett realized that leadership did not consist of a manager dominating the actions of his or her employees but rather there were many requisites that were needed for successful leadership that required cooperation among a leader and his followers. Followers have the role to keep their leader in control of the situation by providing suggestions, informing the leader of any problems, and pointing out orders that need to be corrected. However, as Drucker pointed out, Follett s ideas were beyond her time (Forbes p.170); the theories of leadership during her era said that the leaders lead because they had certain personal qualities that could not be learned while Follett pointed out that anyone could learn to be a leader (Boone p.150). Since Follett had made the assumption leadership was a learned quality when the management theories at the time had assumed otherwise; her theories about leadership would have to wait for decades before they could be fully appreciated in management science. Case: What are the significant changes in management theories? Opportunities for an individual to develop understanding of themselves stem from the experiences attained on their journey through life. The elements which contribute to life are explored throughout Gwen Harwoodââ¬â¢s poems, At Mornington and Mother Who Gave Me Life, where the recollection of various events are presented as influences on the individualââ¬â¢s perception of the continuity of life. Both poems examine the connections between people and death in relation to personal connections with the personaââ¬â¢s father or mother. By encompassing aspects of human nature and lifeââ¬â¢s journey, Harwood addresses memories and relationships which contribute to oneââ¬â¢s awareness of life. Memories and meandering thoughts, related to personal experiences, are explored throughout At Mornington where the persona shifts between the past and present and dreams and reality. This is similar to Father and Child where Barn Owl is set in past test and Nightfall is set in the present, symbolic of appreciation and understanding of the complexities of life which the child learns. The post coital moment and ensuing spiritual freedom, metaphoric for artistic freedom, is equated with the resurrection; the sacrifice of the spirit by artists for earthly, and in Harwoodââ¬â¢s case domestic considerations; reminiscent of Christââ¬â¢s sacrifice for humanity. Irrespective of the authorââ¬â¢s gender, equating lovemaking to religion would have compounded controversy; however I believe is a mechanism Harwood uses to emphasize the enormity of the sacrifice expected of women (QUESTION). Harwood continues imagery of entrapment; and through personification juxtaposes heart and spirit ââ¬Å"As the heart from its prison cries to the spirit walking aboveâ⬠; this analogy of the irreconcilable human desires of creativity and domesticity reflective of her personal context. Harwoodââ¬â¢s attempt to derive meaning from her experience is concluded by acceptance of the conflicting roles of women; alliteration, enjambment and the resigned tone ââ¬Å"falls from its dream to the deep to harrow heartââ¬â¢s prison so the heart may wakenâ⬠providing the necessary insight into the human experience. (QUESTION) Whilst ââ¬Å"Triste Tristeâ⬠, seeks to reconcile the dichotomy within oneself, ââ¬Å"Father and Childâ⬠looks outward in Harwoodââ¬â¢s examination of her dynamic patriarchal relationship. Father and Childâ⬠is a diptych, two thematically linked poems, which similar to ââ¬Å"Triste Tristeâ⬠captures a concrete moment in time and then discusses the abstract to demonstrate the (QUESTION continuity of human experiance) The meditative voice characteristic of ââ¬Å"Triste Tristeâ⬠is adopted; ââ¬Å"Barn Owlâ⬠a retrospective recount of a seminal childhood experience involving the unwitting destruction of innocence, whilst ââ¬Å"Nightfallâ⬠concludes with the poets acceptance of temporal boundaries. Harwoodââ¬â¢s Romantic influences are exhibited through examination of childhood innocence and incorporation of the owl, simultaneously symbolizing death and wisdom. Biblical imagery and binary opposition of morning and evil, ââ¬Å"I rose blessed by the sun a horny fiendâ⬠is unconventional, however I feel is feminist choice not to sentimentalize the cruelty of a young female child. My view is evidenced by the reference ââ¬Å"my fatherââ¬â¢s gunâ⬠; the gun, a phallic symbol of power. The formulistic construction and simplistic language echo a childââ¬â¢s understanding of the world, enhanced by the synecdoche ââ¬Å"beak and clawâ⬠. Harwoodââ¬â¢s repeated references to literal and figurative blindness; ââ¬Å"daylight riddled eyesâ⬠, ââ¬Å"owl-blindâ⬠echo Shakespeareââ¬â¢s King Lear, and are metaphoric of the childââ¬â¢s ignorance. The child believing ââ¬Å"death clean and final not this obsceneâ⬠is left reeling, highlighted through alliteration and (QUESTION)grotesque imagery ââ¬Å"stuff that dropped and dribbled through loose straw tangling in bowelsâ⬠. Harwoodââ¬â¢s use of imperative voice, father commanding ââ¬Å"End what you have begunâ⬠is indicative of the childââ¬â¢s forced transition from innocence to experience. ââ¬Å"Nightfallâ⬠effectively conveys the (QUESTION continuity of human experience) by elucidating the stages of life and evolving father-daughter dynamic. Alongside the fatherââ¬â¢s paradoxical state of innocence, denoted through irony ââ¬Å"passionate face grown to ancient innocenceâ⬠, the tone becomes increasingly subdued. Harwoodââ¬â¢s adherence to conventional rhyme, metre and syntax are undoubted Romantic conventions, but I believe are connected with her musical background, music a catalyst to establish the (QUESTION continuity of human experience). This is furthered by the simile ââ¬Å"as a string near breaking pointâ⬠, highlighting the tension between capturing a moment and recognition of lifeââ¬â¢s transience. The juxtaposition of nature flourishing whilst the father withers, ââ¬Å"Birds crowd in flowering treesâ⬠, illustrates human mortality, reinforced by the King Lear allusion ââ¬Å"Be your tears wet.
Foundations of Australia Taxation Law
Question: Discuss about the Foundations of Australia Taxation Law. Answer: Introduction The report is based on the case study for assessing the residential status for the purpose of the tax. The case study is based on the Taxation law of Australia, which will help in getting clear and advance knowledge in respect of Australia taxation with the applicability of law in practical issue. The report mainly concentrates on the specific area of the federal taxation system, income tax, fringe benefit, etc., The report contains the detailed explanation of the law, acts, and policies coming under Australian Taxation. The case is related with Stephanie Rogan, her husband Ronald and Rogan Advertising in which both of them are an employee. The assessment will be done by looking to relevant law and rules related to taxation ruling and residency test of the Australia. During the residency test, four of the major test has been taken into consideration. Residency Status The Residency Status and measurable income of taxpayer of Australia are stated under section "6 5(2)" and "6 10(4)" of "ITA Act 1997". These sections will provide rules and regulations for the assessment of statutory income which will be received from any source of income. So, it is very necessary for determining the residential status of a person as well as company for paying tax, prior for calculating income (Austlii.edu.au.2016). The section 6 ITA Act 1936 is applicable for an individual. It states the individual is said to be a permanent resident of Australia if he is living in Australia for six months or more of income year or a participant in the Superannuation Fund. Under this section, there is four test of residency, i.e., ordinary concepts, permanent place of Adobe test, superannuation fund test and 183 day test. "Para 19 under IT 2650" defines that an individual was leaving the Australia for a temporary time will be considered as resident in Australia, the as per the ordinary test an individual will be taken as resident of Australia for assessing the tax. "Para 21 under IT 2650" defines that an individual leaving the Australia for temporary time will be taken as domicile, unless and until he is settled as a taxpayer by the another domicile. In the given case both Stephanie and Ronald are resident Australia for computing tax which is applicable on the under the given rules, i.e., under "Section 6 ITA Act 1936" and "IT Ruling no. 2650" (Law.ato.gov.au.2016). The "section 6 ITA Act 1936" is also applicable in the case of Australia. It is defined as company will be taken as resident company only if it has origination in Australia or carry out its operation or the enterprise is controlled or the shareholder of the company is situated in Australia. In the above case study Rogan Advertising is fulfilling all the criteria, so it is considered as resident company for assessing the tax. Stephanies Measurable income The statutory income will be coming under section 6 5 of ITA Act 1997. It is defined as income got as per ordinary concept and using it as ordinary income. The income which is under measurable income, whereas it is not an ordinary income can be referred to statutory income is coming under section 6 10 ITA Act 1997. The ordinary income will be coming under section 6 5 of ITA Act 1997 like income arise from personal use, income from operations of business, income arise from property and from schemes of profit making (Ato.gov.au.2016). Taxation Ruling 2001/8 explains that personal service of business will be applicable only to those person whose ordinary and statutory income are only achieved through personal skill and individual effort. Rogan Advertising is running its business only through personal skill and individual effort so it will be coming under personal service business. Rewards and payments received which will be incidental to employment will be coming under service of pe rsonal business. In the given case study Rogan Advertising is giving salary of $ 80000 to Stephanie this salary is coming under personal exertion so it will be included as measurable income. Ordinary income is the profit which is earned from the business. Measurable income of resident who is the shareholder of a company will have given the dividend from the income of company comes under Section 44 ITA Act 1936. Under Section 6 ITA Act 1936, if a company receives dividends will be considered as passive income and will be considered as measurable income. Income from property is said to be rent and will be considered as ordinary income so it is taxable under section 6 ITA Act 1936 (Legislation.gov.au.2016). The rent will be equally distributed because it is jointly owned and income will be taxable. Income received from personal service income will be considered as primary because the income is received from personal skill and effort of the person paying tax is coming under section 84 5 of ITA Act 1997. On the given case, Stephanie is receiving income by giving lecture to the student of Monash University, which is coming under personal service so it will be considered as measurable income (Austlii.edu.au.2016). Ronalds Measurable income Under section 6 5 ITA Act 1997 says that income achieved from personal exertion will be considered as ordinary income. Income got from personal exertion will be coming under income achieved about employment. In the above case study, Ronald is employed in Rogan Advertising and getting salary of $ 80000 this salary in coming under personal exertion and it will be coming under measurable income of the person paying tax. Income from rent is an ordinary income, that to if the property is jointly owned then the income will be distributed proportionately among the taxpayer. In the above given case, the property is jointly owned by the Ronald and Stephanie, even it was leased on rent, so income received from that source will be coming under measurable income of Ronald (Legislation.gov.au.2016). Rogan advertisings Measurable income Income which is received by company is almost under the head of measurable income. The income which is subject to tax is called as measurable income. Measurable income of company will be included in Ordinary course for operating business like selling of the trading stocks and giving services. The proceeds from the earning and excluding the profit of the business are coming under the measurable income of the company. Measurable income of company does not include income from hobby, prizes and gifts which is not related to the business. The amount which will be coming under measurable income of the company is decided on the accounting method is to be followed by business. Basically, there are two accounting method, first is cash basis and actual basis. The exact process for measuring income according to Taxation rule is earning method. Deduction can be claimed on the expense of the business only when the expense is used for running the business and earning it. Taxation Rule - 97/7 defin es the incurred term. The incurred term is not defined under general of Para 6 of Taxation Rule 97/7 when expense will incur. The general rule will be only applicable if taxpayer will be required to pay and also has not yet paid in the present year but he is presently under the liability of tax. If operating expense have actually incurred it can be claimed as deduction in the present year. So these expense will be included in wages, salary etc. Expense which has capital nature will be claimed over a time period. The cost which is relation to asset and has life for more than a year, in that case total cost will not be treated as current year purchased rather depreciation is calculated. In the above given case study Rogan Advertising is giving advertising services and fees received through this will be coming under measurable income. Received fees from the company are not mentioned in the given case study so accurate measurable income cannot be determined. The expenses related to sala ry are. For measuring the income, the salary related with expense will be get deduction so it will not be included while assessing the income. Operating expenses are also subject to deduction, but in the case study amount for that income is not given, so accurate deduction amount cannot be determined (Austlii.edu.au.2016). Conclusion On the basis of analysis, it can be said that the salary which is received by Stephanie and Ronald from the Rogan Advertising will be taken into consideration which is $ 80,000 for both of them. Then in case of Rogan Advertising the amount of salary will be treated as expense. Even the dividend received will be coming under assessable income as well as there are no franking credits are available. Similarly, the fees received as salary from Monash University will be considered as personal service income and will be coming under measurable income. Finally, to conclude the above given case study it can be said that Australian Taxation is one of the complex method for assessing the income as well as resident status. Status of women in ancient societies
In the ancient times, different communities had different ways in which they treated their women. In some cases, women were being treated in the same way as children while in others, they were given an equal treatment with their male counterparts. This depended much on the beliefs in the respective societies as well as the culture passed down over the generations.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Status of women in ancient societies specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In the Ancient Egyptian society, women were treated in a totally different way compared to their counterparts in the Ancient Greece society. Women in Ancient Egypt enjoyed equality with men and were accorded the same rights especially in the economic aspects. This was not the case in Greece where there was a high level of gender inequality and women were treated as being lesser than men. In many societies, it was unheard of to hear of women who were all owed to stand on their own without the support of men. This used to happen in Egypt where women were allowed to own and manage property and in this case the term property included land, slaves, money, livestock and other portable products. With Greek women however, they could not carry out any legal activity or acquire property without the consent of a man. The designated males who would stand in for them were referred to as Kourios and this would be either the father or brother or husband. They would be the ones to sign these contracts on behalf of the women and in reality they would be considered the legal owners of the property (Blundell 1995, p34). While this was happening in Greece, the Egyptian women on the other side were even entitled to receiving inheritance from their parents under their own names and just like the modern woman; they were allowed to seek employment. In a marriage set up, women fully owned what they brought in though the husband had the freedom to use this property. The wife would also inherit two thirds of the entire wealth in case the husband died and the rest would be subdivided among the children and other relatives. From this therefore, we find that an ancient Egyptian woman was more or less treated like the modern woman of today unlike their Greece counterparts. Egyptian women were allowed to rule and this is evidenced by the artifacts and paintings from the ancient times. One such artifact is a drawing of Queen Nefertiti showing the Queen leading a convoy. This is an indication that the Queen was on the lead since the husband is seen immediately behind her.Advertising Looking for essay on gender studies? Let's see if we can help you! Besides this painting there is also a sculpture of Nefertitiââ¬â¢s burst which indicates the high status that the queen was given. This applied to all other women in the community since as a rule; women were to be respected, adored and admired. This explains even why they were able to rise to power in the first place. Egypt was renowned for having the first women leaders in the days when they were ruled by Pharaohs. In Greece however, things were different and this is also depicted in their artifacts and drawings. Women would never be leaders and their main job was considered to be that of bringing up children and tending to the the households. (Capel and Glen 1996 p12). They were given in marriage to their fatherââ¬â¢s choices of men irrespective of whether they loved the man or not. The place of women in ancient Greece is illustrated more clearly by the sculpture of Nikandre Kore from the Island of Delos. In this sculpture, there are inscriptions of the life of Nikandre but she is described in relation to the male figures in her life that is the husband, father and brother. Her personality is attributed to them and despite her attempts to make independent decisions, these were not recognized. This artifact is sufficient illustration of the treatment women were being given in ancient Greece in that they were denied the right to express themselves in who they were but instead they were being viewed through the eyes of the male figures in their lives. According to the Egyptian mythology, women were considered sacred and this explains the huge number of goddesses. Besides being given a high place in the society, they were also associated to issues of fertility and life bearing and barren women would seek their blessings in order to conceive. They would bring gifts mostly foodstuffs when they wanted to get children. The goddesses were given different roles depending on their lives on earth and the circumstances under which they died. In most cases however they were considered to be having the powers to protect and give life (Robins 1993, p10).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Status of women in ancient societies specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More An example of this is Osirisââ¬â¢ wife who is said to have been murdered by her brother and transformed to a goddess after that. She was renowned for blessing funerals but besides this, she would also protect the female species as well as give life to the barren. From this therefore we can deduce that even in Mythologies, women were still accorded high respect hence given such dutiful responsibilities. The Greek mythologies also recognize women unlike the Ancient practices. One of the greatest figures in these Myths was Artemis the goddess of children and hunting. She was a strong woman who dared ask her father never to force her into marriage. Artemis was a strong figure and she was known for revenging in very crude ways. from this, we can tell that she was feared since her actions always caused an irreversible damage. This means that being a woman; she did bow to the pressures of the society but her way through life and eventually emerged as a strong goddess. At some point it is said that a certain hunter happened to see her when she was naked and the result was that he was transformed to a deer and his own dogs instructed to eat him up to pieces. This shows a lot of supernatural powers which men bestowed on the women in Myths despite the low status they placed them in reality. As a conclusion therefore, we can deduce that the Mythical treatment of Women is almost similar to the both the Greek and Egyptian culture, despite their differences in real life situations. Writing a Sample Analysis Essay
Writing a Sample Analysis EssayIf you are like many others, you've probably found that you're struggling to write a sample analysis essay. The most difficult part of writing an essay is getting the ideas out of your head and onto paper. This is why many students find that working on a sample essay can help them overcome this problem. There is no doubt that you're going to have to make some changes when it comes to this sample, but it should still give you the idea of how to do your own analysis. It's good to begin by understanding the major points in your essay. Here are some things to remember when doing this. You'll be amazed at how much this little detail will affect the quality of your essay.Use keywords throughout your sample analysis essay. Most people overlook this. However, they should have no problem using key words throughout the essay. It's important that you include key words in the conclusion as well. Key words are the main aspect of this particular essay.Make sure you us e your point first. I know that this sounds pretty simple, but it can be hard to do if you aren't used to writing. One of the best ways to do this is to use short sentences throughout the essay. Even though it may seem awkward, it's important to make sure that you follow this rule.Finish on a positive note. Although it's natural to want to end a written piece with a positive note, you should be aware that you should avoid this at all costs. Ending with a negative note will do nothing but hurt your potential for acceptance. When analyzing the essay, take into consideration what you are trying to say. While it's very easy to just throw out a bunch of numbers without having any real idea of what you're trying to say, it's also very easy to get caught up in the numbers. If you don't know what you're trying to say, it's best to go back and try to figure it out before moving on.Make sure you keep your analysis as short as possible. Remember that the sample essay is not meant to be a four h undred-word dissertation. It should only be about two hundred words. Also, make sure that you focus on only one thing at a time.Take some time to analyze what you write. Analyzing your analysis before actually submitting it is crucial. Just because you write a lot of these doesn't mean that you're automatically going to have a good quality essay. Take some time to really analyze your own writing and look for areas where you might need to improve.

The Accor and Hyatt companies Essays
The Accor and Hyatt companies Essays The Accor and Hyatt companies Essay The Accor and Hyatt companies Essay Most organisations provide a portfolio of branded products. The accommodation industry is no exception. The Accor and Hyatt companies follow four core components which embody strategic marketing. They segment the market, select the right target, identify the value proposition of that market and communicate that to the target markets. The portfolio offered by both organisations is evidence of marketings evolution towards micro-markets, product based, and value based solutions. About Accor. Accor represents the worlds largest hotel and tourism organisation with more than 3500 hotels and resorts in 90 countries with claims to having the most comprehensive choice of hotel styles and locations. Accor has brands to suit all tastes including the 5 star luxury of the Sofitel and business class of the Novetel, the flexibility of the Mecure, the variety and budget saver accommodation of All Seasons, and the value and convenience of the Ibis and Formule1 brands. About Hyatt. Hyatt encompasses 206 hotels and resorts internationally. Hyatt offers services to the luxury segment of the market. The Hyatt brand includes the 4 star services of the Regency, offering customers opportunities to broaden their horizons and rejuvenatein rooms designed to reflect the best of the local cultures with exceptional technology, meeting, and fitness facilities. The 5 star Grand Hyatt serves culturally rich destinations that attract leisure and business travellers, large scale meetings and conventions. The Park Hyatt represents the companies smaller, 5 star luxury brand catering for the ..discriminating traveller seeking privacy, personalized service and the elegance of a small European hotel. Market Segmentation and Target Marketing. According to DSS research, Market Segmentation describes the division of markets into homogeneous groups which respond differently to promotions, communications, advertising and other marketing mix variables. Each segment can be targeted by a different marketing mix because the segments are created to minimise inherent differences between respondents within each segment and maximise differences between each segment. Target marketing, according to Kotler et al, is evaluating each market segments attractiveness and selecting one or more markets to enter. Segmentation for Accor and Hyatt. Accor has diversified its portfolio and services a range of market segments. It targets the luxury segment with its Sofitel and Novetel brands, the good service and value segment with its Mecure and Ibis chains, and the budget conscious with its brands Formula 1, Motel 6 and Red Roof Inn. Hyatt has segmented the luxury end of the market and targets its range of services at the consumer who is willing to pay for the privilege. Targeting for Accor and Hyatt. Accor and Hyatt target different positions in the market for numerous reasons. Markets are made up of consumers who differ with respect to wants, needs, resources, geographical locations, buying attitudes and practices. This is reflected in the statement that market segmentation is a customer orientated philosophy. The primary reasons for the segmentation of markets are: * Easier Marketing Addressing the needs of smaller groups of customers is easier if they share many characteristics; * Efficiency Creates efficient use of marketing resources by focussing on the best segment for companies products encompassing price, product, promotion, and place. Segmentation can avoid sending the wrong message or sending your message to the wrong people. * Identifying Niches provides opportunities in under-served and un-served markets. Helps a company compete for buyers in less contested markets and helps products or services find new buyers. Micromarkets. Micromarketing is a form of target marketing where companies tailor their marketing strategies to the needs and wants of narrowly defined geographic, demographic, psychographic, behavioural, or benefit segments (Kotler et al, 2003). The information within micromarkets is significant to the Hyatt and Accor companies. It is in micromarkets where products, information, and services can be utilised to better satisfy the customers wants. Micromarketing for Hyatt. Micromarketing by Hyatt has led to the introduction of special programs including Hyatt Business Plan, Meeting Connection, and Camp Hyatt, which targets business travellers and parents on holidays. Micromarketing for Accor. Accor has utilised micromarketing as a tool to identify niche markets. Accor promotes its Advantage Plus program as the logical choice for the frequent traveller and regular entertainer. Accor also offers an extensive business travel program which provides the corporate traveller with hotels in central business districts, near international airports, and major corporate parks worldwide. Bases for Market Segmentation. Hyatt and Accor consider several factors when targeting segments of the market. They may divide the entire population into 2 broad categories: * Ultimate consumer purchasing goods and services for personal use; * Business users purchase goods and services to be consumed for business purposes. The criterion for placement in one of these groups is the customers reason for buying. This provides a basis to target holiday makers with resorts in popular holiday destinations and business groups with programs such as Corporate Conference and the Hyatt Business Plan. Segmentation Basis for Accor and Hyatt Geographically, Hyatt and Accor targets the most popular holiday destinations and business capitals. They are strategically placed in major and secondary cities, as well as airport locations and popular resort destinations. Hyatt and Accor also uses demographics as a basis for segmenting with consumers needs, wants and usage rates varying closely with demographic variables. Income segmentation would be a priority for Hyatt in targeting the luxury end of the market. It has been observed that no single demographic variable captures all the difference among the needs and preferences of the consumer. An alternative is occasion segmentation. Hyatt and Accor provides packages not only based on demographics, but also incorporating events in particular cities around the world, as well as packages for personal celebrations. Segmentation based on benefits identifies a niche market. It provides useful information on the major benefits that people look for in a service, the kind of consumer that looks for each benefit, and the major brands that deliver each benefit. Market Coverage Strategy and Positioning. Once an organisation has segmented the market, it must select one or more as its target. This is the process of choosing a market coverage strategy. An organisation must determine the desirability of each segment of the market. Guidelines have been developed which include: * Target markets being compatible with the organisations goals and image; * Resources offered must match the marketing opportunities offered by the specific market segment; * Organisations must be able to generate a profit; * Seeking a market where there are the fewest competitors. According to Kotler et al 2003, an organisation can choose one of three market coverage strategies: * Undifferentiated Marketing ignores market segment differences and goes after the whole market with one market offer. * Differentiated Marketing target several market segments and design several offers for each. * Concentrated Marketing target a large share of one or a few submarkets. (insert slide 41 from marketing lecture 4 here) As is stated by Dibb and Simkin (2001) positioning is the place occupied by a product or brand in a given market as perceived by the target market customers. It is based on the products or brands attributes, standing, quality, the types of users, its strengths and weaknesses, price and value, plus any other memorable characteristics, as perceived by the targeted customers. Hyatt Market Coverage Strategy and Positioning. The Hyatt has adopted a concentrated marketing coverage strategy. The company has positioned its brands in the luxury and corporate market with .exceptional technologysophisticated business and leisure facilitiesgrand scale refinementworld class standardsanctuary and luxury. With this success, the Hyatt has become a leader in the creation and operation of luxury resorts. Hyatt services at the business traveller, with .deluxe hotels with meeting facilities and special services for the business traveller.operating hotels in major and secondary cities and airport locations. Accor Market Coverage Strategy and Positioning. In contrast, Accor has adopted a differentiated marketing strategy. Accor has brand name hotels such as the Sofitel and Novetel offering prestigious hotels and resorts in the worlds most desired business, cultural, and resort destinations; to the cut price Formule 1 offering consistent motel style accommodation at budget rates in prime transport locations. Accor also targets corporate travellers with the Novetel brand which is at the forefront of business class hotel brands. Internet Positioning. The internet offers companies such as Hyatt and Accor numerous opportunities. Online advertising being the largest has four distinct advantages: * Targetability Focus on customers from specific companies, geographic regions and locations, by time of day, computer platform, browser, personal preferences and actual behaviour. * Tracking -Track how customers interact with brands and learn what interests current and perspective customers. Internet advertising can measure response to an advertisement which is difficult using traditional advertising * Deliverability and Flexibility Advertising delivered in real time 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Ads can be launched, updated, or cancelled immediately. * Interactivity -Engage customers with a product or service more effectively online. Customers interact with the product or service, test it, and if they choose, purchase the product or service. The most significant advantage to be realised is targetability and contextual marketing. As described by Zeff and Aronson, various strategies are now readily available to capture the demographics, tastes, and preferences of users to better target content.an advertiser can finally target every ad so that it goes out to just the right prospective customer at precisely the right time. Contextual Marketing eliminates wasted impressions by only delivering ads to interested personsand an ad is not considered a nuisance when it is information a person wants. Accommodation and the Internet. Hyatt has found new ways to utilise the internet. In the past, hotel groups have handed over too much control of inventory and pricing to third party online travel agencies.and now they are trying to take back the reins after early shopping patterns have been established. One article estimated that 51% of the 6.3 billion in online bookings made in 2002 were made by the actual hotel sites, with the remaining 49% going to online travel agents. Hyatt is one of a number of hotel chains tackling this problem. A year ago they launched Travelweb LLC, there own rival to online booking sites such as Hotels.com, Expedia, and Travelocity. Conclusion. Marketings evolution towards product and value based solutions has highlighted the importance of market segmentation, targeting, and positioning to the travel and accommodation industry. The Accor and Hyatt companies offer a range of brands and services to varying segments of the population. By targeting specific segments in the market, Accor and Hyatt satisfy effectively the specific benefits sought by particular consumers. This also promotes efficient use of resources and helps identify niche markets. Tailor made programs offered by Accor and Hyatt is further evidence of the innovation of micromarketing. Accor and Hyatt base these micromarkets on the differences in consumers needs and wants, resources, demographical and geographical information, buying attitudes and practices. With this, Accor and Hyatt have implemented market strategies to position there brand of services in different market segments. Both companies have taken advantage of what the internet has to offer, especially in the areas of targetability and contextual marketing. As the internet moves beyond the desktop computer and exposes points of contact infinitely more timely and relevant, market segmentation and target marketing will provide companies such as Accor and Hyatt with the platform to continue to satisfy customers and trade profitably in this volatile industry.
